The Guardian love Pai’s Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser!

Our Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser is having a serious moment this spring – winning two awards in the past month as well as a lot of love from one of our favourite beauty editors, Sali Hughes.

The Guardian’s resident beauty guru picked our bestselling Cleanser as one of her top-picks for sensitive skin last weekend, saying:

“I love this very gentle, velvety cleanser on all skin types. The mild, creamy formula seems to suit everyone and makes a lovely gift…”

As my “Say No To Squeaky Clean” campaign proves, I’m a firm believer in good cleansing being at the heart of a great skincare regime.

This is particularly important for sensitive skin types who react badly to the oil and pH imbalances incorrect cleansing can cause.

Daily Express beauty columnist Lesley Reynolds also turned her focus to sensitive skin last week in her brilliant article ‘Why sensitive skin is nothing to get stressed about.’

The step by step guide to managing sensitive skin (which you can read here) names Pai as the go-to “super soothing” range for sensitive skin of all types – with options for dry and oily, youthful and mature skin alike.

Lesley recommends steering clear of alcohol, parfum and detergents in skincare products – some of my real bugbear irritants, as well as making sure you read your ingredients lists.

I harp on about it all the time, but making sense of ingredients lists and identifying your triggers is the first step to getting sensitive skin calm and under control.

If you struggle to decipher all that Latin, read my top tips round-up here.

Hello. Just wanted to ask why the travel size 50ml cleanser is not available to buy on your website anymore?

  • Ed

    Hi Katie,

Was just replying to you on Facebook!

The 50ml is no more :-(

But we’re replacing it with something else! Will be about 8 weeks – we’ll announce on Facebook + Blog.

I’ve been using this cleanser for about a week now.
What I’ve been noticing is that my skin is actually getting more sensitive and more clogged pores.
I’m suspecting that’s due to too much exfoliation as I’m using the muslin cloth to remove the leftover cleanser twice a day.
Do you know if I’m doing anything wrong for that?
Can I not use muslin cloth to remove the leftover cleanser in the morning? And will water alone be sufficient enough to remove the cream cleanser?

    Hope to see your reply!

I tend to find exactly the same thing with this cleanser. I love the whole ritual of using a cleansing cream and removing with a muslin as it does leave a clean feeling at the end but also realise that cream cleansers have to be removed throughly so they don’t clog the skin. I have been using the cleanser at night only with the muslin cloth and then just splashing with water in the morning before moisturising. Are you using circular motions with the cloth, I have just been using a wiping motion as don’t want to upset my rosacea skin too much but wonder if the circular motion is the way forward to keep on top of breakouts and blocked pores?.

I like your morning routine, but I have combination-oily skin and I have to wash my face to get rid of the oiliness.
I also dont think it’s hygienic for me apply any products when my face is oily : /
Actually I wonder if the exfoliation by a muslin will actually make my skin produce more oil?
The way I do it is I gently pad my skin with the warm muslin cloth after i leave the warm cloth on my skin for awhile. I repeat that for several times and then gently wipe off (and rubb for abit) the remaining cleanser. Lastly I will splash my face with warm water for a minute and cold water for another minute to make sure my skin is rinsed properly.

I can see where you are coming from with cleansing in the morning. It does feel a bit alien to me just splashing with water but I have been told that in doing this I will see the benefits. I wouldn’t be happy with this if I had oily skin but mine is rosacea/dry and sensitive although still blemishy. Interesting to see how not cleansing in the morning will work in a couple of months time when we hopefully have some hot weather and warm nights!

  • Helly

How are you getting on with the cleanser?

  • Anonymous

Hi Helen, It sounds as though you’re really getting to grips with your new routine – that’s great! I wouldn’t worry about whether you’re using circular or wiping motions when cleansing, the points is that you remove all the Cleanser effectively. If you find that using a gentle wiping motion works for you then go for it! x

Hi Yvonne, Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear that you’re having some trouble with the Cleanser. We do normally recommend just cleansing at night, and splashing your face with water in the morning. However, if you don’t feel like this is enough, then you can always try using just a damp muslin cloth? Using the cloth twice a day shouldn’t be too much – you just need to make sure that you’re using gentle motions when cleansing rather than rubbing as this could cause irritation. Hope that helps! x

    thank you for your reply!
in the past few days I’ve stopped any rubbing but I still experience a bit of sensitivity (although I still cleanse my face twice a day).
I do have oily face when I get up so do you think muslin cloth alone will work cleansing my face in the morning?

  • Anonymous

Yes, it’s definitely worth a try. Some of our customers have reported great results with this method. Let us know how you get on! x

Hi, I just received my cleanser yesterday and I have cleaned my face twice. I have oily sensitive skin with rosacea, eccema and acne (all together) I also used your sensitive and oily cream in the morning and the rose hip oil at night. But today I woke up with my face even oilier and pimps! Maybe the muslim cloth is not good for me? or maybe I didn’t remove the cleanser correctly? Help please
