Prickly Heat Rash

Dear Sarah,

I have a rash underneath the skin on my left arm - from the wrist up to the elbow.

It looks like a nettle sting. I suffered with this last year whilst on holiday.

The rash appeared again on Monday after spending the weekend in the garden in the sun.

Dear Katherine,

It sounds like you either have a prickly heat rash or possibly an allergic reaction to a plant in your garden.

If it's the latter then a form of anti-histamine might bring the reaction down. Quercetin and nettle are good natural anti-histamines.

Prickly heat rash occurs when your sweat ducts are clogged.

I would recommend:

  • Avoid anything that is going to make the area hot or sweaty;
  • Keep the arm cool and dry;
  • Wear loose cotton clothes round it;
  • Try our Chamomile & Rosehip cream (first use a free sample on a small patch to see if it makes a difference);
  • Avoid washing your arm with foaming body washes in the shower.

    Shower gels that foam contain chemical detergents which are harsh skin irritants and could aggravate the condition.

    Look out for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate on the ingredients list.
