But why is certification so important to us when we’re creating our organic skincare - and more to the point, why should it be important to you when you’re scanning the beauty aisles for your next product?

Here’s why those trusted logos - such as our Soil Association and COSMOS seals of approval - are well worth looking for on your next skincare shop.

It’s about people as well as plants

Yes, organic certification means that the formula you’re buying into contains organically grown ingredients, with no pesticides and no contaminated soil. But that’s just a tiny part of the package.

It’s also about minimising the impact on farmers and their communities, ensuring the people making the product are paid fairly, and not using endangered plants (which many brands still do). The breadth of ethical standards goes far beyond the ingredient itself - it means due diligence has been done at every step of the supply chain.

It protects our water

There would be no life without water, and it’s predicted that access to clean water will be a huge issue in the future.

Organic certification means that every ingredient has been audited for what happens when it goes down the plughole, into our oceans and rivers. By choosing certified organic ingredients, we know that they biodegrade and that they’re not leaving any trace.

We’re playing our part in reducing water wastage, too. At Pai we manufacture our own products, and we have a closed loop system in our production facility that recycles water, using reverse osmosis to deliver 70 litres of purified water per hour.

The beauty industry is making huge strides in reducing plastic waste and putting its packaging under the microscope, but with certified organic skincare it’s not optional - it’s part of the deal.

In order to be certified, our products have to adhere to strict rules on excess packaging, from the components of the bottles and tubes themselves to the boxes we send them in. That’s why we use recycled paper and biodegradable corn starch chips - and plastic sellotape has been replaced with paper tape so you can easily recycle it at home.

We’re firm believers that when it comes to skincare, we should be doing all the hard work for you. You shouldn’t have to worry about where an ingredient comes from or whether a brand you’re considering is caring for the planet.
