Why You'll Love It
A CLEAN SWEEP.

A cult favourite, our gentle cream cleanser features a trio of oils which lift away dirt and make-up with ease – all while protecting the skin’s delicate oil and PH balance. It’s no wonder it’s not just our customers with sensitive skin that love it for super-soft skin that’s clean, not squeaky.

We know cleansing can feel like a drag. Literally. Like dirt, make-up and all the good stuff are being pulled from your skin. Not ours. Luxurious and gentle, this creamy formula makes skin feel like it’s had a holiday, not a chemical peel. The aim is to leave the skin in better nick than it found it, so it won't strip away those protective oils that keep the peace. Its clever Omega-rich ingredients – Camellia Oil take a bow – and innovative dual-effect sensitive skin cloth see to that.
Directions

Gently massage cleanser into dry skin across face and neck. Dampen the Twin Flyer Muslin Cloth to remove.

Key Ingredients

  • Camellia

A prized oil from the seeds of the Camellia flower. Rich in Omega 6 and polyphenol antioxidants, it leaves skin moist and supple. And never stripped.

  • Rose

We use Damask Rose Otto oil – the Rolls Royce of rose oils. Not only does it smell like a dream, it helps the skin to hold onto moisture and helps irritated and dull skin bounce back to health quickly too.

Sarah Brown, Pai Founder

"On Pai’s doorstep is Chiswick House, home to one of the last surviving ‘Middlemist Red’ Camellias in the world. Camellia sits at the heart of this gentle cleansing cream which keeps skin beautifully soft and balanced. It was the seventh product to be born into our range and we’ve named it after John Middlemist, who introduced this rare bloom to the UK."

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use this in my routine?

Middlemist Seven is the first step in your skincare routine. Massage 1-2 pumps onto dry skin, remove with the dampened Dual-Effect Cloth, then follow with your serum and moisturiser. You can also pair it with Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil as a double cleanse: Light Work first to dissolve heavy makeup and SPF, then Middlemist Seven to deep-cleanse and condition.

How often should I use Middlemist Seven?

For most skin types we recommend cleansing with Middlemist Seven in the morning and evening.

If you have very sensitive skin, it's best to keep your routine as simple as possible and cleanse just once a day in the evening.

Can I remove the cleanser without the cloth?

Not effectively. Because Middlemist Seven is 100% detergent-free, it won't emulsify with water and rinse off the way a surfactant cleanser does. The included Dual-Effect Face Cloth is integral to how it works: the muslin side provides gentle mechanical exfoliation and lifts dissolved impurities, while the soft terry side does a final sweep for delicate areas like around the eyes. Using the cloth also means you avoid rinsing with tap water, which can disrupt skin pH, particularly in hard water areas.

What makes Middlemist Seven different from other gentle cleansers?

Most cleansers, even those labelled "gentle" or "for sensitive skin", rely on surfactants that can strip the skin's protective lipids and disrupt its pH. Middlemist Seven contains zero surfactants of any kind. It uses a trio of plant oils (castor, camellia, sweet almond) to dissolve dirt and makeup on contact, so your skin's moisture barrier, acid mantle, and natural oil balance stay completely intact.

Does Middlemist Seven remove heavy makeup and sunscreen?

It removes all everyday makeup, including waterproof mascara. The plant oils dissolve makeup on contact without any need for surfactants. For days with heavier makeup or high-SPF sunscreen, try a double cleanse: Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil first to cut through the heavy layers, then Middlemist Seven to deep-cleanse and condition.

Is Middlemist Seven suitable for oily or breakout-prone skin?

Yes. The formula is non-comedogenic, and Sweet Almond Oil helps dissolve the excess sebum responsible for clogging pores. Oil-based cleansing also avoids the rebound oiliness that can happen when surfactant cleansers strip too much and your skin overproduces oil to compensate. That said, if you prefer a lightly foaming wash and are actively prone to breakouts and congestion, Phaze may be a better daily fit.

Is Middlemist Seven suitable for eczema-prone or rosacea-prone skin?

Yes. It's passed 96-hour human repeat insult patch testing specifically on eczema-prone and sensitive skin volunteers. Because there are zero surfactants in the formula, it avoids the barrier disruption that published research links to detergent cleansing, where surfactant molecules penetrate the stratum corneum and interact with epidermal proteins and lipids, causing tightness, dryness, and flare-ups. For many people with reactive skin, switching away from surfactant-based cleansers resolves issues that serums and moisturisers alone can't fix.

Is Middlemist Seven safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Yes. Middlemist Seven is confirmed safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's COSMOS Organic certified, 100% natural origin, and has been 96-hour patch tested for tolerance on sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

How do I choose between Phaze and Middlemist Seven?

Phaze is a gently foaming face wash with mild exfoliating properties, designed for oily and combination skin that's prone to breakouts or congestion. Middlemist Seven is a richer, surfactant-free cream cleanser that actively conditions while it cleans, making it the better choice for dry, reactive, or sensitive skin. If your skin feels tight or stripped after washing, Middlemist Seven is the one to try.

Why should I choose Middlemist Seven over Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil?

They do different jobs. Light Work is a first-step oil cleanser that emulsifies with water and rinses off, designed for quick, efficient removal of heavy makeup and SPF. Middlemist Seven is a richer cream cleanser removed with the Dual-Effect Cloth, designed to condition and nourish your skin during the cleanse. If your priority is skin that feels soft and replenished after washing, Middlemist Seven is the one. Many people use both: Light Work first, then Middlemist Seven.

What are the key ingredients in Middlemist Seven?

Organic Camellia Seed Oil (over 87% unsaturated fatty acids plus natural squalene) replenishes skin lipids and reduces water loss during the cleanse. Organic Castor Oil, roughly 90% ricinoleic acid, is the primary dirt-lifting agent, and published research identifies ricinoleic acid as a non-pungent anti-inflammatory that reduces oedema and inflammatory markers. Damask Rose Otto, steam-distilled from organic Bulgarian rose petals, contributes over 300 bioactive compounds including flavonoids and terpenes that support antioxidant activity and moisture retention.

What certifications does Middlemist Seven have?

Middlemist Seven is COSMOS Organic certified by the Soil Association (100% natural origin, 72% organic content), Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free, and registered vegan. It's also dermatologist tested and approved, non-comedogenic, and has passed 96-hour human repeat insult patch testing on sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

How do I care for and replace the Dual-Effect Face Cloth?

Rinse your cloth thoroughly after each use and hang it to dry. Machine wash regularly at a low temperature to keep it fresh and hygienic. Over time the muslin fibres will soften and lose their gentle exfoliating texture, so replacement cloth packs are available separately when yours needs retiring.
