If you haven't discovered our bestselling moisturiser for super sensitive skin, it's time we introduced you. The Anthemis™ is our most soothing face cream, formulated to instantly calm redness and settle reactions in hypersensitive complexions. And it doesn't stop there. This little bottle delivers clinically proven 24-hour hydration* while actively supporting your skin barrier.

The second product to ever grace the Pai lineup, it's still one of our most-loved formulas. Here's what makes it so special.

The formula that calms from first contact

As with every Pai product, the power comes from the quality of our ingredients. In this case, two botanical actives that we've extracted using advanced technology to capture their full potential.

First is Rosehip Oil. Just like our cult face oil that's sold over a million bottles, we use CO2 extraction to harness both seed and fruit. This preserves more antioxidants and regenerative omegas than any cold-pressed alternative. Your skin gets maximum nourishment and protection in every drop.

But the real star of The Anthemis™ is German Chamomile. We specifically chose this species for its higher levels of chamazulene, matricin and bisabolol. These compounds have potent anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties that are particularly therapeutic for sensitive skin.

Here's the crucial bit: how you extract chamomile determines whether these compounds survive.

Blue Chamomile essential oil (the most common form) is steam distilled, which destroys matricin entirely. The heat also degrades most other healing constituents. The final essential oil has lost the vast majority of chamomile's original therapeutic properties.

We use CO2 extraction instead. This low-temperature process preserves concentrated levels of raw actives because nothing is damaged by heat. Our chamomile extract looks like fresh grass cuttings. It's worlds away from a refined essential oil.

On an ingredients list, you'll see essential oil written as 'flower oil' and CO2 extract as 'flower extract'. That single word difference represents completely different therapeutic potential.

The skin-calming benefits, proven

CO2-extracted chamomile preserves matricin, a powerful anti-inflammatory that steam distillation destroys. It also retains bisabolol, bisabolol oxides, and other soothing compounds at their natural concentrations.

This intact composition makes it remarkably effective for sensitive and allergy-prone skin. Research has found German chamomile extract as active as 0.25% hydrocortisone cream at just 1% concentration. (Hydrocortisone is a common prescription treatment for eczema and dermatitis.)

German chamomile also works as a vasoconstrictor, helping reduce visible redness and skin flushing. That's particularly beneficial if you're prone to rosacea.

We believe claims need evidence. So we put The Anthemis™ through independent trials with 112 people who have sensitive skin. After four weeks:

  • 85% said skin felt instantly more comfortable
  • 97% said it helped soothe dry skin
  • 90% said their skin looked calmer
  • 91% said their skin felt less tight
  • 84% said it helped soothe irritated skin

We also clinically tested its effect on the skin barrier. The results? Clinically proven to hydrate for up to 24 hours and support barrier function*. A stronger barrier means calmer, more resilient skin.

Why it's our customers' most-ordered moisturiser

Clinical trials tell one story. Customer experiences tell another. The Anthemis™ is the moisturiser people buy on repeat, with thousands calling it their skin saviour.

Here's what they're saying in their five-star reviews:

"Excellent on my dry patches. The only product I've managed to use and not have a reaction to." - Valerie W.

"The perfect moisturiser for my sensitive skin. It's like it breathes a sigh of relief when I use it. Never found anything to match this." - Janine M.

"I don't usually believe promises skincare companies make about what their product will do to your skin. This one is different. I've seen a major improvement of my rosacea." - Nicola J.

"This cream has changed my life! I am so grateful for finding this product. Used together with the cleanser it has completely changed the appearance of my skin. I have been wrestling with acne rosacea for three years. Spots, red patches, dry patches. I've tried pretty much everything, including dietary changes. Now I have my face back. And my confidence." - Jane B.

Your complete calming routine

The Anthemis™ works beautifully alone, but for maximum calming benefits, here's the full routine:

Start with Middlemist Seven™ Gentle Cream Cleanser to remove makeup and daily grime without stripping your skin. Follow with Century Flower™ Barrier Defence Mist to prep and strengthen your barrier. Then massage in 1-2 pumps of The Anthemis™.

Once absorbed, apply British Summer Time™ SPF30 Sensitive Sunscreen if it's morning. Our mineral sunscreen protects, primes and adds a healthy glow in one step.

You can reapply The Anthemis™ throughout the day whenever skin needs soothing. A few spritzes of face mist works better for touch-ups over makeup.

If skin feels hot, angry or dehydrated before bed, apply The Anthemis™ as your night cream. Otherwise, try Rosehip Bioregenerate™ for overnight regeneration. This is our CO2-extracted face oil with clinically proven skin renewal benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Anthemis different from other moisturisers for sensitive skin?

The Anthemis uses CO2-extracted German Chamomile, which preserves the full complex of anti-inflammatory compounds, including matricin, bisabolol and bisabolol oxides, that steam distillation destroys. This extraction method produces a concentrate so fresh it resembles grass cutting pulp, delivering significantly more of chamomile's raw healing properties than the Blue Chamomile essential oil found in most skincare products.

Is there clinical evidence that The Anthemis actually works on sensitive skin?

In a four-week independent trial of 112 people with sensitive skin, 97% said it helped soothe dry skin, 90% said their skin looked calmer, and 91% said their skin felt less tight. A separate 24-hour clinical study on 20 subjects confirmed it provides clinically proven hydration for up to 24 hours and supports the skin barrier.

How does CO2-extracted chamomile compare to hydrocortisone for calming skin?

German Chamomile has been found to be as active as 0.25% hydrocortisone cream in a 1% concentration, making it a compelling botanical alternative for managing conditions like eczema and dermatitis. It also has vasoconstrictor properties that help reduce visible redness and flaring, which is particularly beneficial for rosacea-prone skin.

What's the best daily routine using The Anthemis for reactive skin?

For maximum calming benefits, cleanse each morning with Middlemist Seven Gentle Cream Cleanser, follow with Century Flower Barrier Defence Mist, then apply The Anthemis. Once it has fully absorbed, finish with sunscreen. For overnight care, you can layer Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil instead, or reapply The Anthemis if your skin feels hot or dehydrated before bed.

Why does Pai use CO2 extraction for the rosehip in The Anthemis?

CO2 extraction captures the goodness of both the rosehip seed and fruit, unlike most rosehip oils which are seed-only. This whole-plant approach delivers more antioxidants and regenerative omegas because the process operates at low temperatures in an oxygen-free environment, preserving heat-sensitive compounds that cold pressing would degrade.
